History: Named after Dr. Lauro JĂșlio Calliari (1951-2023), a remarkable Brazilian oceanographer. He worked all his life as professor at the Rio Grande Federal University (FURG) and guided several studies and research projects in the area of Geological Oceanography and mineral resources along the Brazilian Continental Margin, for almost fifty years. He is considered one of the Fathers of Brazilian geological oceanography and was a very well respected scholar and teacher.
