GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2000. History: Named from the Dainsuli (Hedychium philippinense), an endemic and endangered ginger in the Philippines. It is the only ginger recorded in the country to grow on trees. It is an epiphyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome, on herbaceous plants with ‘pseudostems’ formed by leaf sheaths. |
