History: Named from the Kamantigi plant, also known as impatiens balsamina, balsam, garden balsam, rose balsam, touch-me-not, or spotted snapweed. This plant, native to Southern and Southeast Asia, is considered a therapeutic herb in the Philippines. The Kamantigi is a tall plant, generally standing to 20-75 cm, and has a soft stem with spiral leaves. Its vibrant blooms come in shades of pink, red, mauve, purple, lilac, or white, and attract bees, insects, and nectar-feeding birds. Its colorful presence creates a positive and vibrant atmosphere in gardens and landscapes. |
