GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2006. History: Named after “Libulan”, a Visayan moon deity. Libulan, associated with sea turtles, was represented by them as his symbol, especially in his feminine aspect. The god was closely linked to the lunar phases, reflecting a predominantly timid or shy mood, rarely revealing his full glory for extended periods. Shamans in pre-colonial Visayan communities paid homage to his enigmatic nature through crossdressing, reflecting the demureness of this lunar deity. |
