GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2004. History: Named from the Malabayabas (Tristaniopsis Decorticata), a small to medium-sized tree up to 10 m tall, 40 to 60 cm in diameter. It is a timber species, endemic to the Philippines and found in many types of lowland to lower mountain forests, up to 1,300 m of altitude. Rates of habitat loss through logging and shifting cultivation have led to considerable population declines. |
