MarBEF General Assembly
Location: CIIMAR in Porto (Portugal)
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2005-03-21
End Date: 2005-03-23
The second General Assembly will be organized in the Biblioteca Almeida Garret, during three full days on 21-23 March. The GA will be preceeded by a Steering/Executive committee meeting on the 20th.
This general assembly meeting is of crucial importance for the further development of MarBEF for two reasons:
1. We (the MarBEF consortium) have to settle the agenda for the next four years of the project. The responsive mode projects have to be imbedded in the strategic core programme and funds have to be allocated to activities to ensure proper functioning of the research consortia. The prioritizing of the research tasks and the negotiation about the allocation of the budgets is not an easy task, but it is something that we have to do now. The long term agenda will be prepared by the steering committee, assisted by the executive committee, and presented to you on the general assembly meeting. Please note that this will be a proposition for an agenda, open for discussion and that needs to be approved by the assembly.
2. We have to prove to our patrons and to the scientific community that networks have a useful [function] and that we are worth our money. With the seventh framework now being in full discussion, the timing is crucial. We have to evaluate progress, especially on the integration, indicate bottlenecks and ways to solve problems that already exist or that will arise. We have to have an outside look on this and we intend to invite representatives from our Board of Governance, from the European Commission, from our sister networks and from international programmes. We also want to introduce some science in the meeting and we plan to organize a poster session presenting relevant past and ongoing marine biodiversity projects.
Please note that we have agreed that travel and subsistence costs of up to two participants of each institute can reimburse travel and subsistence costs from the MarBEF budget.
