European lagoons and their watersheds: function and biodiversity

Location: Klaipėda, Lithuania
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2005-10-04
End Date: 2005-10-09

Event Description:
Lagoons are increasingly recognised as ecosystems covering a very wide range of climatic and hydrological conditions. They are systems of significant economic value to local and regional communities, and, as such, are strongly impacted by anthropogenic pressures. There is considerable scientific interest in understanding the ecological functioning of lagoons and the external pressures such as agriculture, industrial, tourism and aquaculture etc.
The major goal of the conference is to promote an interdisciplinary forum for lagoon research and facilitate creation of European wide lagoon research network.
