ECSA 41ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE - Measuring and Managing Changes in estuaries and lagoons

Event Description:
The aim of the conference is to present the “state of the art” of the research concerning estuarine and coastal environments. The conference will analyse and discuss aspects relating to the bio-ecology of estuarine organisms and communities, physical-chemical processes in the transitional waters, socio-economic issues for their management, impact of anthropogenic
activities, methodological and conceptual approaches to the study of estuarine and coastal environments. The specific congress topics are:
• Ecological effects of invading species.
• Threatened species in estuaries: ecological role, behaviour and conservation.
• Estuarine communities: functioning and management.
• Estuarine communities: the use of biological, chemical and socio- economic data.
• Chemical inputs, transformations and outputs.
• Ecotoxicological aspects of estuarine environments and tools for management.
• Habitat loss and gain: creation and restoration.
• Socio-economic aspects of managing the coast.
• Aspects related to coastal engeneering and planning activities.
• The removal of biological and physical resources.
• Pollution processes in transitional environments.
• Tools for Integrated Coastal Zone Management.
The meeting will also give the opportunity to know and discuss several issues related to the special problems regarding the Venice Lagoon and the city of Venice, through a special session titled “Coping with sea level rise”.

Event programme:
All participants wishing to present papers as either an oral or poster presentation are required to submit an abstract no later than APRIL 1st,
2006. The abstract acceptance will be comunicated by MAY 31st, 2006. All contributors will be invited to submit a manuscript at the congress.
These manuscript will be considered, subject to space restrictions and the normal peer review process, for publication in an internationl journal.
Registration fees are Euros 250 (Regular), 200 (Full ECSA member), 150 (Student) for early registration (until 30 June, 2006), and Euros 330
(Regular), 280 (Full ECSA member) and 200 (Student) for late registration (after 30 June, 2006). The congress fee includes welcome reception, five conference days, coffee breaks and conference material. Students who are members of ECSA and who will give a paper or poster at the meeting can apply for travel grants.
