Understanding Sea-level Rise and Variability

Location: Paris, France
Event Type: Workshop
Event Date: 2006-06-06
End Date: 2006-06-09

Event Description:
A World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Workshop in support of the Coordinated Observation and Prediction of the Earth System (COPES) and a WCRP contribution to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS).
Sea level rise is accelerating and environmental refugees have already been forced to evacuate from inundated islands in Kiribati and Tuvalu. Despite the urgent policy needs, the forthcoming IPCC Fourth Assessment Report is unlikely to be able to make definitive statements about the speed of future rise. To reduce these uncertainties WCRP is initiating an intense research effort at a workshop in Paris, France.
The deadline for abstract and poster submission is 20 April 2006.

We have endeavored to LIMIT the size of this workshop to approximately 150, to facilitate discussion among a manageable number of attendees. As a result, attendance has been by invitation. However, we recognise there is broad interest in this topic and additional people may feel strongly that they too should participate. If this is the case, please e-mail the Workshop Secretariat (contact e-mail) an expression of interest, which plenary session is of primary interest, and what they have to contribute to the objectives of the workshop. As we have limited finances, we regret that there are no travel funds available to support the participation of additional attendees.
