MarBEF training course GENETIC FINGERPRINTS IN BIODIVERSITY RESEARCH

Location: Max-Planck-Institute for marine Microbiology, Brem
Event Type: Training Course
Event Date: 2007-03-05
End Date: 2007-03-09

Start Time: 9:00    Ending Time: 13:00

Event Description:
The training course discusses the different diversity fingerprinting techniques with actual research examples. A hands-on part demonstrate the basic molecular techniques (DNA isolation, PCR, agarose electrophoresis) and T-RFLP as one
fingerprinting technique.
The lectures also place the fingerprinting approaches among other molecular techniques used in microbial biodiversity research.

The training course consists of lectures in the morning and either a hands-on demonstration in the laboratory or eventually student reports in the afternoon.
Lectures will cover fingerprinting techniques (T-RFLP, ARISA, DGGE, SSCP, PFGE and related techniques). A hands-on demonstration will introduce into T-RFLP (max. 12 participants). Eventually we will organize for advanced students afternoon sessions where they can present their study object.

The training course is organized by the MarBEF RMP Microbiology.

Costs: The course fee will be 200 Euro. Travel and subsistence are paid by the participants. The training course is endorsed by MarBEF.

Applications: Applications should be sent as single pdf-file by e-mail to jharder@mpi-bremen.de. Applications should include department address, phone, fax, e-mail together with a short c.v. and a short description of the applicants research.
