High-throughput sequencing applied to marine organisms, a European perspective

Location: Station Biologique de Roscoff (France)
Event Type: Workshop
Event Date: 2007-04-15
End Date: 2007-04-17

Event Description:
MGE Exploratory WS
"High-throughput sequencing applied to marine organisms, a European perpective"

Registration at:
Dates: April 15th - 17th, 2007

Location: Station Biologique de Roscoff, Place Georges Teissier, BP74, 29682 Roscoff Cedex, France

Aim of the Workshop
The application of genomic approaches to marine organisms is currently providing important insights into many key areas of research. These include traditional areas of marine biology, such as understanding planktonic ecosystems (studies that have acquired new importance and urgency with the advent of global warming) in addition to several other, recently emerged fields. The latter include studies of organisms that live in extreme environments, bioprospecting for novel, active biomolecules produced by marine organisms and the application of evo-devo approaches to marine models as a means to address fundamental questions in developmental biology.

The exploratory workshop is open to up to 35 participants from all MGE nodes as well as non-MGE-members. It is specifically suited for PhD students and postdocs involved or interested in the generation, integration and analysis of expressed sequences and gene regulatory interactions. The workshop will provide the participants with current state-of-the-art information on transcriptomic approaches in a series of lectures given by recognized experts in the field and should also serve to share expertise among the participants and stimulate cooperation across different fields of marine research. Therefore, applicants willing to present their own research will be preferentially selected.

The deadline for registration is the 28th of February 2007.
As space is restricted and we expect significant interest for the WS, we encourage you to register early.
