MarBEF WS: the role of native and/or invasive ecosystem engineers in explaining biodiversity

Location: Klaipeda (Lithuania)
Event Type: Workshop
Event Date: 2007-04-22
End Date: 2007-04-27

Event Description:
The members of the MarBEF RMP “The role of native and/or invasive ecosystem engineers in explaining biodiversity“ are organizing a workshop that will focus on biodiversity effects of ecosystem engineers, with special attention for the following 2 topics:

- TOPIC 1: Biodiversity effect of native and invasive ecosystem engineers, across different scales
- TOPIC 2: Compare biodiversity effects of epi- and enobenthic ecosystem engineers in shallow coastal ecosystem

We hope to achieve the following points at the workshop:

- Update each other on our work by oral presentations
- make from all presentations a special issue in Helgoland Marine Research (or a comparable journal)
- collect data for 2 joined opinion papers on Topic 1 & 2. The workshop organizers will write a general introduction for these opinion papers preceding the workshop. Based on this introduction, the participants that want to contribute to this paper are asked to think about how they could provide input e.g. by case studies from their own data combined with their literature knowledge. During the workshop we will discus (1) which of the case studies are interesting to work out for a separate box in a paper and (2) which of the cases studies should be worked out and than be combined, in order to get a more general picture. The discussion should result in detailed practical arrangements, by dividing tasks with deadlines.

We would like to invite you to e-mail to Anastasija Zaiko (
- If you want to attend the workshop (with intended arrival and departure dates) => PLEASE subscribe before the 1st of MARCH !
- If you would like to give a presentation (or present a poster) with the title

We are very much looking forward to hear back from you, and hope to see you all at Klaipeda - Lithuania

Kind regards,

Sergej Olenin, Karsten Reise, Tom Ysebaert & Tjeerd Bouma (
