5th European conference on Marine Natural Products (V ECMNP)

Location: Ischia Island (Italy)
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2007-09-16
End Date: 2007-09-20

Event Description:
The 5th European conference on Marine Natural Products (V ECMNP) will be held in Ischia Island (Italy) from 16-20th September, 2007. The conference will host traditional and emerging subjects of the research on MNP, with the aim to encourage in Europe the understanding of marine chemical diversity to a level that is closer to the one we currently have in terrestrial systems. The event is co-organized by CNR-Istituto di Chimica Biomolecolare, University of Naples, University of Salerno and Stazione Zoologica “A. Dohrn”.

The European Conferences on Marine Natural Products focus on different aspects of the research on Marine Natural Products, offering opportunities to share multidisciplinary information among chemists, marine and molecular biologists, biochemists, ecologists, pharmacologists and those in related areas. V ECMNP will continue in the mainstream of the previous meetings having been held in Athens, Santiago de Compostela, Munich and Paris under the patronage of the European Community. The main aim of the V ECMNP is to foster research on the basic and applied aspects of MNP studies, including the role in marine ecosystem functioning, the development of research tools devoted to defence and conservation of marine environments, and the application for pharmaceutical and cosmaceutical industry as well as marine aquaculture. Major themes of V ECMNP are on Biodiversity and Chemical Ecology, Isolation and Structure Elucidation, Modern Analytical Methods, Biosynthesis and Molecular Aspects, Synthesis, Bioprospecting and New Frontiers.

We plan to call for oral and poster presentations, with a maximum of 24 contributions for 16-min oral presentations. Each conference session will be introduced with invited lectures held by leading figures in order to have cutting edge contributions in the different scientific areas and meet the interest from colleagues from all over the world. V ECMNP is especially designed for young researches and the Poster sessions will be highlighted with a number of contributions that will be selected for short oral presentations.

The meeting will be at outstanding level as confirmed by the presence of leading invited lecturers and by the quality of the International Advisory Committee including scientists belonging to European Scientific Institutions: Marie Lise Bourguet Kondrachi (CNRS-Muséum National d’Historie Naturelle, Paris, France), Guido Cimino (CNR-Istituto di Chimica Biomolecolare, Italy), Ernesto Fattorusso (Facoltà di Farmacia, Università degli Studi di Napoli, Italy), Thomas Lindel (Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, Germany), Raffaele Riccio (Facoltà di Farmacia, Università degli Studi di Salerno, Italy), Ricardo Riguera (Facultad de Quimica, Univerisitad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain), Vassilios Roussis (School of Pharmacy, University of Athens, Greece)

Further information and regular updating of V ECMNP can be found on the web at the conference home page

This conference is supported by MarBEF. This means that each member of MarBEF is entitled to put the costs of 1 participant to the conference on their MarBEF account up to a maximum of 1,000 €.
