General information
Future climatic and ecological impacts on Arctic ecosystems and human populations will have significant economic, political, and social implications for nations bordering the Arctic. It is thus important to balance the use of Arctic ecosystems with their conservation. Arctic Frontiers Tromsų will unite stakeholders to define priorities for development and research, so that we can address Arctic regions within a pan-Arctic perspective and promote sustainable levels of human activity based on scientific knowledge and cultural sensitivity. Arctic Frontiers Tromsų is now an annual event that takes place in the 3rd week of January in Tromsų, Norway. As a gateway to the Arctic and a centre of Norwegian trade with Russia, Tromsų has occupied since the very beginning, and even today, an important role for the exploration and scientific investigation of the European sector of the Arctic. Arctic Frontiers Tromsų maintains this tradition.

The science section of Arctic Frontiers Tromsų focuses every year upon up-to-date aspects of Arctic environmental science in order to Policy making conference understand the Worlds least known ocean and to promote pan-arctic comprehension and integration.

During part one of the conference, invited keynote speakers will provide a review of the current status of Arctic science; introduce current social, economic, and political issues; and identify challenges facing these disciplines in the coming years.

Scientific conference

Part two will be a scientific conference focusing on Arctic marine ecosystems and the potential impacts of environmental change on their structure and functions: Food web dynamics and biogeochemical fluxes in the Arctic Ocean. Three international research programmes focused in the European Arctic will present their findings. This will be supplemented by invited and submitted presentations that will extend these findings across the pan-Arctic region.
