4th EuroGOOS Conference on European Operational Oceanography: Present and Future
Location: Brest, France
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2005-06-06
End Date: 2005-06-09
The Conference will focus on operational oceanography which can be defined as the activity of systematic and long-term routine measurements of the oceans including coastal zones and atmosphere, and their rapid interpretation and dissemination.
The goal of the Conference is to review the progress of operational oceanography during the past three years on both European and global scale, identifying gaps in the current observing and forecasting capacity and plan the next steps towards efficient marine environment predictions.
Following the success of the three previous Conferences, the meeting will bring together scientists, engineers, policy makers and representatives of private companies concerned with operational oceanography. Representatives from the users community are invited to present their views and their needs for operational marine services.
The Conference will take place after the mid term of both the European Commission 6th Framework Programme which supports large integrated efforts towards a European Research Area, and the GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) initiative which supports collaborative efforts in environmental sciences. It will provide a forum to report on major projects in operational oceanography and to prepare efficient planning of the contribution of the marine science community to the 7th FrameWork Programme.
