Dunes & estuaries 2005

Location: Casino of Koksijde (Belgium)
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2005-09-19
End Date: 2005-09-23

Event Description:
Nowadays there are a growing number of nature restoration- and development initiatives in dunes, estuaries and beaches along the European coasts, ranging from rather small projects to large-scale efforts. Often these projects differ quite strongly in the way plans are conceived, scientifically underpinned, carried out and finally monitored. Planners, managers, scientists as well as the final users of these nature restoration projects all have every reason to learn from each other and exchange ideas and practical experience. In order to achieve this, the Nature Division of the Ministry of the Flemish Community (AMINAL-Nature Division), the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), the municipality of Koksijde and The Coastal Union (EUCC) will organize a four-day international conference in late summer 2005. To focus the content and discussions the conference will concentrate on dunes, beaches and estuaries of the European Atlantic coasts. The preliminary programme (see below) is aimed - in form and content - at a maximal exchange of specific knowhow and expertise between all those dealing with nature restoration in Atlantic, soft-substrate, coastal habitats.
