MarBEF Workshop on a European Monitoring Network

Location: Porto (Portugal)
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2009-03-13
End Date: 2009-03-14

Event Description:
CIMAR and the Marine Biological Association (MBA) would like to invite you to a 2 day workshop to consider current education recording and monitoring and to discuss how a European Programme of Marine Life Monitoring, with the participation of schools and other amateur groups might be put in place.

The workshop would bring together MarBEF Organizations from along the European Seaboard. The workshop will discuss the potential to create a European Network of marine life monitoring using the MarBEF network and their access to local groups and schools.

The workshop will be held in Porto and build on the experiences of the MOBiDiC project in Portugal and the Shore Thing project in the UK and other programs.

Day 1 of the workshop will firstly assess current outreach activities amongst the MarBEF community with a [view] to adopting best practice. Secondly the workshop will discuss the need for a coordinated approach and begin the drafting of a full funding proposal for European Funding.

Day 2 will have a practical element taking participants into the field to undertake a [public] survey with students and volunteers. The survey will provide data, test methodologies and feed into the potential larger project.
