CALMARO Workshop on Genomics, Proteomics and Functional Gene Expression

Location: Southampton, U.K.
Event Type: Workshop
Event Date: 2009-08-23
End Date: 2009-08-29

Event Description:
CALMARO (www.calmaro.eu) is an Initial Training Network – Marie Curie Actions, supported by funding under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community, aiming at improving the career perspectives of early researchers by offering structured training in the field of Calcification by Marine Organisms as well as providing complementary skills.

The University of Southampton will host the next CALMARO workshop from August 23 to 29, 2009, at the National Oceanography Centre and the Centre for Proteomic Research in Southampton, U.K.

This introductory workshop is directed to newcomers to the fields of genomics and genomic analysis, quantitative gene expression analysis using real-time PCR and proteomics, and is appropriate for new PhD students or postdoctoral staff who are moving in to a new field of research. The workshop will start with a one day introduction to genomics and genomic analysis which will include some computer based practical sessions (speakers from the Bergen Centre for Computational Sciences). On Tuesday and Wednesday an introduction to robust quantitative gene expression analysis will be provided which will include some practical sessions on RNA quality analysis, primer optimization and relative gene expression analysis (speakers from University of Southampton, guest speakers from Bio-Rad and PrimerDesign Ltd). The workshop will conclude with a two-day introduction to proteomics and proteomic analysis in non-model organisms (speakers from the University of Southampton, Centre for Proteomic Research, Southampton and the University of Cambridge).
