Fish and Fisheries Cross-Cutting Action workshop Brest
Location: IFREMER, Brest, France
Event Type: Workshop
Event Date: 2004-06-14
End Date: 2004-06-16
The topic “fish and fisheries” was identified as a cross-cutting subject within MARBEF at the Bruges Kickoff meeting. As a cross-cutting subject, it will address several key actions and main themes of MARBEF.
The Brest workshop will define the overall objectives and activities of a cross-cutting responsive mode proposal addressing biodiversity of fish, including effects of fisheries. The project will address issues such as:
The project will be designed to extend the activities of various recent and ongoing EU and national projects and to promote new approaches for biodiversity research within the fields of fish and fisheries ecology. The workshop output will be a draft proposal for submission by the July 15 deadline.
- fish biodiversity within EU waters (temporal/spatial variability, functioning) ;
- threats to fish biodiversity (direct impact from fisheries, other anthropogenic impacts, global change, methods to stop fish biodiversity losses);
- genetic diversity of EU fish populations
- fish biodiversity and human society (e. g., impacts of different conservation measures on stakeholders).
As background preparation for the workshop we encourage participants to read two documents:
Note: travel and lodging costs for 1 person per institute can be covered by MARBEF !
- the fish-related workpackages submitted to the MARBEF organizers in spring 2003. These can be found here. If there are some missing workpackages, please let us know and we will try to have have them added before the meeting.
- the main conclusions and summaries from sessions 1-3 of the recent MARBENA e-conference on the European Biodiversity Action Plan for fisheries. These can be found under "Links" on this web site.
