Botanical Nomenclature

Location: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK
Event Type: Training Course
Event Date: 2012-01-30
End Date: 2012-02-03

Event Description:
The present course is being organized in the framework of the Distributed European School of Taxonomy (DEST) and will include the basic principles of plant nomenclature according to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN). The main aim is that participants will be able to apply good nomenclatural practice when undertaking taxonomic revisions, compiling checklists etc. This will be achieved by lectures illustrated with examples from the ICBN, workshop sessions applying what has been learned to “real life” cases, and by encouraging participants to discuss nomenclatural problems they have encountered.

Participants will have time to pursue their own research interests using the collections at Kew, with the emphasis on identifying and solving nomenclatural problems.
Short seminars will give participants the opportunity to present nomenclatural problems relevant to their own research.

Target Audience: MSc students, PhD students as well as for early career researchers

Deadline for registration: 31 October 2011.
Participants will receive notification by 14 November 2011 whether accepted to the course.
