Sixth International Crustacean Congress

Location: University of Glasgow, Scotland
Event Type: Meeting
Event Date: 2005-07-18
End Date: 2005-07-23

Event Description:
This is an international conference on Crustacea, but will contain themed sessions on European marine Crustacean biodiversity.

These meetings typically gather around 400 participants and several MARBEF members from different partner institutes are already pre-registered to attend. It will provide an excellent opportunity for MARBEF members to meet and to for them promote the best of European science to a global audience. This meeting will serve as an integrating activity across MARBEF and in spreading of excellence. Training objectives will also be met via the planned “Briefing sessions on methodologies for Molecular taxonomy” to be held during the Congress.

There will be focused sessions on the biodiversity of European marine Crustacea and their spatial and temporal distributions, and on diseases of commercial significance. These relate directly to the objectives of Core Theme 1 within MARBEF; for example to the priorities for Theme 1 – adequate description of patterns of marine biodiversity at appropriate scales. The importance of commercially exploited and cultured marine crustaceans makes the disease mini-symposium also highly relevant to MARBEF Theme 3 (socio-economics).
