Abstract:
Section of Economic Geography of Sea specializes in geography of the sea. Its scientific interests concentrate on geography of transport, maritime economy, political and socio-economic geography of Poland. Section of Hydrogeography and Water Economics pursues research in the field of hydrography, oceanography and climatology. including ice phenomenon and ice processes; morphology and topography of ice layer; characteristic relations of icing and hydrological and meteorological factors; modern changes of thermal ice conditions; influence of atmospheric circulation on hydrometeorologic conditions; relations of atmospheric precipitation and atmospheric circulation on Polish coast. Section of Climatology and Meteorology of Sea has been dealing with climatic risk of growing plants in Poland and with the assessment of extreme meteorological phenomenon in the context of changing climate for several years. The Section pursues research on size of change of aerosols and gases in the South Baltic region, and also analyses the annual increases of trees, the analysis is used for specifying climatic changes in Western Pomerania. Section of Physic Oceanography concentrates on: hydrometeorologic research in the region and estuary of the Odra river and Zatoka Pomorska (meteorologic conditions, water condition, physical features of water); physical processes which take place in the region and estuary of the Odra river, with special attention to extreme hydrometeorologic conditions which are the effect of limiting navigation; hydrometeorologic conditions of exchange of river waters with sea waters in the estuary of the Odra. Section of Regional Development pursues research on: conditions and mechanism of regional and local development; collective threats and regional safety, strategic planning of regional and local development; social and economic aspects of relations human being - environment; integrated management of sea areas.
