What is MarBEF?
- MarBEF - Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning
- The first EU Network of Excellence funded under the Sixth Framework Programme and initiated in February 2004
- MarBEF unites world-class marine scientists with expertise in several disciplines under one European network, thereby bringing this dispersed scientific excellence together to create a virtual European centre of excellence in marine biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. This network currently comprises of over 700 marine scientists in Europe from 94 institutes and 24 countries throughout Europe.
- MarBEF is a platform to integrate interdisciplinary marine research and to disseminate knowledge on marine biodiversity with links to researchers, industry, stakeholders and the public through unique training, exchange and outreach initiatives
- The MarBEF network of scientists is addressing the most topical questions in marine ecology, biogeochemistry, fisheries biology, taxonomy and socio-economics in Europe in order to protect, restore and use living marine resources in a sustainable manner.
