Taxonomic remark D'Orbigny (1847) established this genus without listing the included species. D'Orbigny (1850) lists several species including M. detruncata but doesn't clearly specify a type species. Some authors list the type species of Megathiris as Anomia detruncata "by original designation" (Alvarez, Emig, & Tréguier, 2017, p. 69), however, it was likely a subsequent designation given that d'Orbigny didn't specify the type species. [details]
