Diagnosis Melicertidae medusae with eight simple radial canals, four primary and four secondary, all arising centrifugally from manubrium; gonads on radial canals, separated from manubrium; no ocelli. Hydroid phase with the characters of the family. [details]
Taxonomy The genus has a complicated taxonomic history, which has not been resolved fully. For more details see Kramp (1919).

Melicertum Oken, 1815: VI, invalid, published in a work that was rejected by the ICZN in Opinion 417.
