Diagnosis From Carrera Parra (2006): "Prostomium with three antennae, without eyes; notopodia slightly developed; without branchiae; simple and composite multidentate hooded hooks present; pygidium with anal cirri; maxillary apparatus with four pairs of maxillae, carriers as long as MI, joined to entire base of MI; MI forceps-like without internal accessory teeth, with attachment lamella; MII as long as MI, with ligament, attachment lamella wide along 2/3 of posterior lateral edge; without connecting plates; MIII completely pigmented, attachment lamella narrow along entire lateral edge; MIV with whitish central area, attachment lamella narrow. Mandible divergent at both anterior and posterior ends." [details]
Etymology Author: Augeneria is "named after Dr H. Augener of Hamburg, the author of many valuable contributions to our knowledge of the Polychaeta." [details]
Taxonomy According to Carrera Parra (2001: 599) Orensanz (1973) emends Augeneria, but it is not evident in what way it is emended in the article, and Carrera Parra does not explain further. Orensanz (1973) describes Augeneria tentaculata and lists the valid species of Augeneria. [details]
