Neotype Darbyshire (2023) in an article titled "Designation of a neotype for Myxicola infundibulum (Montagu, 1808)) states her neotype is for Myxicola infundibulum (Montagu, 1808). However, it can only be a neotype for the original combination, Amphitrite infundibulum, that Montagu described and named. The lost type needing replacement can only be Montagu's original specimen of Amphitrite infundibulum, and subsequent combinations cannot have neotypes. As further explanation of why the neotype only applies to Amphitrite infundibulum consider if Myxicola became a non valid genus or a synonym - in that eventuality Amphitrite infundibulum and its neotype would transfer naturally to be included in whatever replaced Myxicola. See the record for Amphitrite infundibulum for details of the neotype designation by Darbyshire. [details]
