Validity The species described by Bowerbank as L. contorta was probably a specimen of L. complicata, thus the species Bowerbank becomes invalid. ICZN (2000) recommends the maintenance of names which have been used consistently. C. contorta continues to be valid, and it continues to designate specimens conspecific to that from Banyuls-sur-mer, as described by Minchin (1905). [details]
