Type material There is apparently no extant type material (De Weerdt, 1986: 138), as the Graz Museum catalogue (Dequeyroux-Faúndez & Stone, 1992) did not list the Schmidt (1862) material of this species from Lesina, in the Adriatic. The Schmidt slide with the name Reniera fibulata in London, BMNH 180.5.3.113, from Portugal, which was made from Schmidt's specimen mentioned in Schmidt (1870:40) was reexamined by Topsent (1925: 706) and turned out to be likely Desmacella vagabunda, not the present species. [details]Type species This is the type species of both the genera Gellius Gray, 1867 and Asychis Gray, 1867, which are junior synonyms of Haliclona (Gellius). [details]
Distribution The Mahe record is unlikely to be correct.
