Description Length: 30-36 cm. Plumage: tail forked; back and wing coverts grey; hindneck, rump and tail white; below all white; primary coverts and primaries black; secondaries white, forms a broad white wedge in spread wing; nape in non-breeding dress grey, head in breeding dress dark grey with a narrow black border separating it from white collar. Immature like adult but back, hind neck and crown brownish-grey; tail with black tip. Bare parts: iris dark brown; eyering vermilion; bill black tipped yellow; feet and legs brownish to dusky pink with yellowish webs. Habitat: open ocean. Rare palearctic migrant to seas off South Africa. <389><391><393> [details]
