Taxonomy The name Triforis, as used by Deshayes (1834) is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Triphora Blainville, 1828 and therefore is not available for zoological nomenclature. Nevertheless "Triforis Deshayes, 1834" has been extensively used (e.g. Marshall, 1980; Gougerot & Le Renard, 1980; Pacaud & Le Renard, 1995; Lozouet, 1999) as a supposedly valid name for a group of dextral species, currently placed in genus Trituba Jouseaume, 1884 and tentatively placed in family Newtoniellidae (see Bouchet et al. 2017 note 154). It is to be noted that in the same paper in which he described Trituba, Jousseaume (1884) still used "Triforis Deshayes" for other dextral species which should be included in Trituba rather than in Triphora Blainville, 1828 which includes only sinistral species. [details]
