Taxonomy Fehse & Grego (2020) use for this species the name Pseudopusula africana (Schilder, 1931), despite it is a junior synonym of spongicola, and use the name spongicola (Monterosato, 1923) to denote the widespread Mediterranean species generally known as Trivia pulex (Gray, 1827) or Trivia mediterranea (Risso, 1826).
