Authority Sometimes attributed to Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1968, but all family group names, as coordinate taxa, take the same authority, i.e. the first familial designation. DIG [details]

Editor's comment There is a big problem with the classification of the Ancyrocephalidae and Dactylogiridae. A cladistic study in the 1990s indicated that there was just one family - the Dactylogyridae, but this was only accepted by half of the workers. A recent molecular study showed that there are in fact three families, the Dactylogyridae (mainly freshwater) and the Ancyrocephalidae in two separate parts. However, the second part of the latter was not named; neither were its detailed constituents listed. So I have referred to the two parts of the Ancyrocephalidae as the Ancyrocephalidae (senus lato) and transferred many of the dactylogyrid genera to it. Virtually all new marine genera attributed to the Dactylogryidae in papers will belong to this group. [details]
