Identification Species of C. subsalsa, the type species of Chattonella, was described 1936 from France as having slightly drop-shaped cells, given as 30-50 um long and 15-25 um wide at the widest point. Cells terminated posteriorly into a short tail, and in this respect it somewhat resembles C. antiqua<(i>, described (as e euglenoid!) 1974 by Hada from Japan and also gradually narrowing towards the antapex. The latter was described to be 50-130 um long, and therefore much larger than C. subsalsa[details]
