The Frenchman Pierre Marie Arthur Morelet was a nineteenth century European amateur scientist who was actively involved in malacology. He made collecting trips to Portugal and the Azores, and to Cuba and Central America. His bibliography includes 106 publications, of which 94 are malacological papers in which he introduced 737 taxa. We found several sources, both in the literature and on the internet, where taxa described by L.J. Morlet had been wrongly attributed to P.M.A. Morelet. This book presents data on his life from both literature and new archival research, transcriptions and translations of all his letters we have been able to trace, a reconstruction of his contact network, a complete bibliography, a list of his molluscan taxa, and an overview of extant type material as far as we have been able to locate such specimens.
