Synonymy See Bispira variegata for the reasoning around current usage preference for B. melanostigma over the senior pair of names B. variegata (Krøyer, 1856) and B. thoracica (Krøyer, 1856). Reversal of precedence by prevailing usage is suggested by some taxonomists. [details]
