Taxonomic remark Höglund (1948) renamed his species T. pusilla Höglund, 1947 as T. quadriloba, because it was a junior secondary homonym of the Permian species Serpula pusilla Geinitz, 1848 which was thought at the time to be a Trochammina. Because Geinitz’s taxon is not a Trochamminacea but a Miliolina, Höglund’s new name was unnecessary (Brönnimann & Whittaker, 1988a). As T. quadriloba was proposed before 1961, the name T. pusilla is permanently invalid [International Commission on Zoological nomenclature (ICZN), 1999, Article 59 (b)] and cannot automatically be reinstated (Brönnimann & Whittaker, 1988a; Kaminski, 2004). To this end, Brönnimann &
Whittaker (1988a) applied to the ICZN for the conservation of T. pusilla Höglund. The ICZN has not yet ruled on this application and we retain the name pusilla, pending the outcome of this case. [details]
