Type species Schander et al. attributed the type species designation to Gray (1847). Subsequently, Martins [1999, Iberus, 17(2): 66] gave Voluta denticulata Montagu, 1803 [also an originally included species] as type species, and also attributed the type species designation to Gray. However, Gray [1847, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 15: 159, 160, 179], listed "Jaminia Brown, not Risso" in the synonymy of Alexia and did not validly designate a type species. In the index, Brown attributed Jaminia to Bruguière, who did not use this name. In fact, it is likely that Brown took it from Leach MS, as did Risso, and later Gray when he published Leach's MS. Sherborn and Neave have treated "Jaminia T. Brown, 1827" as a separately available name, which is then invalid because it is a junior homonym of Jaminia Risso, 1826. [details]
