No abstract. Extract from discussion: "However, the monophyly of Sabellidae has been difficult to demonstrate, with Fitzhugh (1989) noting that only a few chaetal features support this. Therefore, in some ways our result grouping Fabriciinae and Serpulidae should not be that surprising. While we can now present strong molecular evidence to show that Fabriciinae is closer to Serpulidae than to Sabellinae, it is also interesting to seek morphological features that would support this grouping. Close examination of the radiolar crown of Fabriciinae and Serpulidae shows that both groups have separate radiolar lobes (Fitzhugh, 1989), in contrast to dorsally fused lobed of Sabellinae, and this separation may be one potential apomorphy. At present there are no clear features that would further support this grouping beyond the absence of features found in sabellids, such as a radiolar skeleton or other features (see below). Further detailed morphological analysis of the relevant groups is warranted" AND "Instead of including Serpulidae in Sabellidae, which cannot be done without a reduction in rank for Serpulidae to subfamily under current ICZN (1999) Article 34.1, we propose Serpulidae should be left as a family-ranked taxon. This means that Fabriciinae must be removed from Sabellidae and be referred to as Fabriciidae and the revised Sabellidae thus equals the previous subfamily Sabellinae."
