A systematic study of the marine Ostracoda from the Tortonian (uppermost part of Middle Miocene) outcropping in the neighbourhood of Enna (Central Sicily) has been carried out. The material examined consisted of surface samples collected in two different points to the East of Enna (for detailed location see pp. 3, 4); in both localities more or less sandy clays, usually rich in glauconite, are exposed. The microfaunas are characterized by the abundance of Foraminifera belonging to the genus Amphistegina. Over fifty species or subspecies have been recognized, belonging to thirty-two genera (for a complete list see p. 62); twenty-nine species and two genera (Chrysocythere, Verrucocythereis) are proposed as new. Two new species (Cytherella vulgata and Eucytheretta triebeli) were obtained from localities in Northern or Central Italy; a new name, Mutilus purii, is proposed for a species of the North-American Tertiary. New names have also been chosen for still unnamed shell structures (terminal pits and posteroventral atrophie).
