Authority The original combination of this species is ambiguous. Verrill & Bush (1898: 790) introduce Axinulus as "new genus or subgenus", formally describe the species as "Cryptodon (Axinulus) brevis" but use the combination "Axinulus brevis" to designate the type of the (sub)genus.
