Leucoraja ocellata - smaller Southern Gulf 'Miramichi' type
Description Winter skate, mature male specimen (50 cm). Compared to the larger Atlantic specimens, this species in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence is intermediate in form with Leucoraja erinacea, a small species which does not occur in the Gulf. Museum specimens identified as L. erinacea from the Gulf are in fact of L. ocellata. Capture: 1988, Rivière-du-Loup, Québec (St. Lawrence Estuary). MLI collection.
