Taxonomy Dantart & Luque (1994) distinguished several species of Recent Lepetella from Bay of Biscay and the Western Mediterranean, and proposed that usage of the name L. laterocompressa, with a type locality in the Plio-Pleistocene formations of Monte Mario (Italy), should be restricted to fossil occurrences. This has yet to be reevaluated.  [details]
