Nomenclature The application of the generic name Sagartia Gosse, 1855 has been
recently changed significantly due to nomenclatural issues connected
with the fixation of its type species (Fautin, 2016; Sanamyan and San-
amyan, 2020). As a result of nomenclatural changes, the valid generic
name for all species formerly assigned to Sagartia is Cylista Wright, 1859:
Cylista troglodytes (Price in Johnston, 1847) (type species of Cylista),
C. ornata (Holdsworth, 1855) and C. elegans (Dalyell, 1848). The diag-
nosis of Cylista is the same as the diagnosis of Sagartia sensu lato (see
Carlgren, 1949). The generic name Sagartia remains valid, but applied
only to three species formerly assigned to Sagartiogeton, their current
valid names are Sagartia viduata (type species), S. undata and S. lacerata (Sanamyan et al 2023)
