Diagnosis Olindiidae medusa with 4 radial canals and numerous centripetal canals; numerous tentacles of two kinds: primary ones issuing above bell margin, with distal adhesive pads and nematocysts in transverse clasps, secondary ones on bell margin, no adhesive pads, nematocysts in rings; ‘gonads with papilliform processes, on radial canals; numerous marginal clubs which may transform into tentacles, statocysts usually in pairs at base of primary tentacles. Polyp stage unknown. [details]
Spelling The gender of the genus name Olindias was not specified by F. Müller (1861), and it cannot be determined from the only originally included species (O. sambiquensis F. Müller, 1861). Thus, the name is to be treated as masculine (ICZN Art. 30.2.4). This is of relevance in the correct spelling of certain species-group names combined with Olindias [e.g. O. formosa (Goto, 1903), should be O. formosus]. [details]
