Type species Mesnil (1896: 117) created Marenzelleria for a previous misidentification of Nerine vulgaris Johnston by Wiren, commented on by Marenzeller, but did not create a species name. There are code rules which possibly resolve this situation. Currently the first species named in the genus, Marenzelleria wireni Augener, 1913 is recorded as the type species, as discussed by Maciolek (1984: 49). [details]

Etymology Not stated in the original description. The genus is named after Dr. Emil Edler von Marenzeller (b. Vienna, Austria, 18 August 1845 - d. Vienna, Austria, 6 December 1918), who in 1892 (Marenzeller, 1892: 402, 427-429, plate 19 fig. 5) described a specimen resembling Scolelepis vulgaris (Johnston, 1827) on which Mesnil (1896: 117, 120) based the diagnosis of the new genus. [details]
