Editor's comment There are no figures but Quatrefages mentions drawings and notes done five years previously and not yet published. Possibly a fuller description was intended but this appears to be Quatrefages last publication. [details]
Etymology Evidently Notocirrus arcachonis is named after Arcachon Bay, where it was collected by Quatrefages. [details]
Publication date Prior to 2017 the publication date was recorded here as 1843. This was incorrect. Although Quatrefages published in 1843, Notocirrus arcachonis was not named until 1873. Notocirrus genus was not named until 1861. The date error is not in Fauvel (1923), and not in Hartman catalogue (both do not record the species), but is in Bellan (2001), thus was transferred to WoRMS. [details]
Spelling Quatrefages gives an informal French spelling prior to the Latin spelling thus as "Notocirrhe d'Arcachon (N. Arcachonis, Q)". He does not use in full the correct latinised 'Notocirrus' spelling of the genus, but we may assume he was well aware the spelling was 'Notocirrus' as he writes "Le genre Notocirrhe, etabli par M. Schmarda. [details]
