Classification Calamyzas amphictenicola is a parasite that was originally placed as a syllid or later as Calamyzinae subfamily in Syllidae by Hartmann-Schröder (1971). Subsequently Hartmann-Schröder (1996) used Calamyzidae as a separate family. Classification in Syllidae was used by Rouse & Pleijel (2001) although they suggested further study was needed, so perhaps were doubtful then that the placement would last. And so it proved.
