Type locality Cape Verde Islands from two localities: Praia, Ilha Santiago, also Ilha São Vicente. Geolocation 14.918° -23.509° is for Praia. Potts (1924) also placed specimens from Torres Strait as the same species but excluded them from the type series thus "The type-specimens come from the subtropical regions of the North Atlantic, but I was surprised to find a Mesochætopterus of common occurrence in Torres Straits, which is, without doubt, identical with M. minuta”. The type locality is incorrectly stated to be Torres Strait in the Hartman Catalogue (1959: 397). [details]
