Etymology Not stated, but undoubtedly named after one of the collectors, German zoologist and parasitologist Fritz Richard Schaudinn (19 September 1871 – 22 June 1906). In 1898 with zoologist Fritz Römer (1866–1909), Schaudinn participated on a scientific trip to Svalbard. The expedition led to the publication of Fauna Arctica, a project begun by Schaudinn.
